Why this Project?
Gene expression array technology is a major current tool in demonstrating change in gene function after radiation exposure.
Project Goals
- To determine the role of dose, tissue type, and time after exposure on gene expression.
- To evaluate genetic background on radiation-induced changes in gene expression.
Experimental Approach
Mouse mammary tissue from animals whose genetic background results in either high or low levels of susceptibility for radiation-induced mammary cancers will be used to characterize differential gene patterns for these two groups.
Outcomes
These studies will identify genetic modifiers of radiation response and provide information that will be useful in prediction of risk for radiation induced mammary cancer.
